The Freeport, Texas Fishing Report could not be much better right now. Spring Break is under way in Freeport, and our Spring Breakers are slamming the fish. Bay Snapper, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, Jack Crevalle, Sharks, and even Pompano are showing up on our Galveston and Freeport Fishing Charters. When the Jack Crevalle show up… Great things are on the horizon for Fishing in Freeport. This past week Captain Greg was filming a Bay Snapper show with Barry Stokes for Fox Southwest and the Jacks showed up. Barry hooked two Jacks, and as they finished up the shoot – a huge school of Jacks surfaced and was crushing shad! This means water temps are on the rise, and some real neat things will begin to happen along the Freeport Jetties, Back Lakes and in Gulf of Mexico. One thing is certain… when the jacks show up, our Freeport Shark Fishing Charters will be heating 
up soon.
Full Limits to near full limits of Bay Snapper have been the norm this past week on our Galveston and Freeport Jetty Fishing Charters. We are using live shrimp free-lined along the North and South Jetty. While fishing for the Bay Snapper, we are also sticking a few specks and slot reds. The Bay Snapper are in the middle of their annual spawn, and not only are these fine fish great fun to catch… they are even better table fare! Grilled, fried, baked, or fresh ceviche – Bay Snapper are one of the most favorable fish to eat from the bays. Big Black Drum are still in their annual spawn and we are catching some Giant Drum using fresh cracked crab fished along the bottom in 18 to 28 foot of water.
The Back Lakes and Marshes of Freeport are also heating up. Our Freeport Fishing Guides are targeting drop offs and drains in the marshes and Christmas, Bastrop, Chocolate and Drum Bays. Lots of redfish are in these areas. Many of the reds are just under the legal-size limit to keep, but they sure are great fun to catch, photo and release. In the mix are also some solid speckled trout and flounder. These areas are also excellent for Freeport and Galveston Family Fishing fun with young children. Our Kid Friendly Fishing Guides really enjoy fishing these areas with beginners and young kids. This past week the go to bait in these areas is live shrimp fished under a popping cork.
Our Freeport Flounder Gigging Charters will be heating up this next month as we ease into the month of April. Winds usually begin calming down, and water clarity will improve. A Freeport Flounder Gigging Trip is definitely a great way to enjoy an evening in the back lakes hunting the elusive flat fish.
