The past week has been the start of our Spring Breakers enjoying some fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast with our Galveston and Freeport Family Friendly Fishing Guides continuing to make things happen and get rods bowed up. Despite Mother Nature’s curveballs – it was a fun filled fish catching week and more to come!
With the high winds this past week we tucked back in the protected back lakes and marshes of Freeport with live shrimp and found hungry fish. Most of our fish came in less than 3 feet of water over both mud and shell. Concentrating on shallow flats and reefs adjacent to deeper guts and channels has been critical. Also, when the tide is moving we are staging up around drains and having success catching fish while they ambush the bait as they move in and out of the drains.

Using live shrimp under a popping cork – we are targeting redfish, speckled trout, BaySnapper, and black drum. As I am writing this Freeport Fishing Report – a cold front just moved through and did drop the water temperatures today. However, this past week we have seen the water temperatures in the low to mid 70s. As this cool front pushes through and warm air takes it’s place – fishing will get better and better through the spring.
This is a great time to get those kids out on the water and catch some fish. Our Freeport and Galveston Kid Friendly Fishing Guides have decades of experience on the Texas Gulf Coast and are ready to get your family out on the Bays and Beachfront for some fish catching action!
