This past week has been such a great time we have had with both first time clients and long time returners. From a Mom and her two young daughters… to three generations of guys – Grandpa, Son and Grandson, and even helped Jayden and his family celebrate his 11th birthday – this week has been one for the record books in my memory. When I mention record books and excellent fishing, most think of filling the box with giant fish and bags of fillets at the cleaning table. Well this past week it wasn’t quite that. However, there were lots of bent rods and many, many, many Big Smiles on kids and families faces as well as memories and pictures that will last a lifetime… long after those bags of fillets are gone.
Most of our Freeport and Galveston Fishing Trips this past week have been in the back lakes and marshes. These areas are great for lots of fish catching action, calm water, less crowds, and amazing scenic views of the Texas Upper Gulf Coast. I had the pleasure this week of taking Michelle and her two amazing daughters ages 9 and 11 fishing back in the marshes. It is not very often I have only a Mom and her two daughters aboard. Well, I tell you what – these girls can fish, and they were amazing Fishing Gals. It was non-stop action the entire trip. They caught a wide variety of fish. Redfish, Speckled trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, and black drum all made it to the deck. The girls learned allot, listened well, and within only an hour and half into the trip – they were baiting their hook, setting the hook on fish, battling them like a pro, and giving knuckle bumps to me! Galveston & Freeport Texas Family Fishing at it’s best!
Also, this past week we had the pleasure of being a part of celebrating Jayden’s birthday with his family. Not only did he celebrate a great day… he caught his personal best ever redfish with Captain Greg Jr. Lots of fun, Bent Rods, Big Smiles and memories that will last a lifetime!
We also had some families stay at our Freeport, Texas Fishing Lodge, and fish a day or two with us. Tom and his family stayed a couple nights and fished a day with us, and had lots of fish catching action and brought home fillets for dinner as well. Fishing the back lakes out of Oyster Creek has been improving this past week. The rain has finally let up and water clarity is getting right. Live shrimp under a popping cork has been the go to for us, and most likely will remain the pattern thru the month of March.
The outlook for March fishing in Freeport and Galveston is good. Water temperatures are on the rise, and this triggers some great things. Spawning fish, increased bait activity, and bent rods will be the hot topic during the month of March. We have Freeport and Galveston Spring Break coming up, and our Galveston Fishing Guides are ready to get you and your family HookedUp!
