Freeport Fishing Report – Summertime Fishing Inshore & Offshore Hot Fishing

This has been a great summer for Fishing in Freeport, Texas, and as we move to the end of August – the fishing outlook is looking great. The last few weeks, our Freeport Fishing Charters have been catching fish along the river & beachfront, back lakes and bayous, and deep sea. Weather conditions, as usual play a major role in the areas we fish – but all the areas are holding good numbers of baitfish, and game fish.
Freeport Jetties & Beachfront
The Freeport Jetties hold fish 12 months a year. Many different species make 
their way “to” or “thru” our jetties during different times of year. Summertime is the most active time along the jetties as far as the diverse species that will feed along the granite reefs. This past month our Freeport Fishing Charters has caught speckled trout, redfish, flounder, Spanish Mackerel, black drum, pompano, sheepshead (BaySnapper), stingrays, many species of shark, and even tarpon.
The jetties will begin seeing more and more redfish coming in from the Gulf in the next few weeks and thru October. September and October are prime for the annual redfish spawn, and the popular “Bull Red Run”. We will be catching Giant Bull Reds in September and October. This is a great month to get catch a trophy!
Freeport Back Lakes & Bays
This summer has seen some days of high wind that make fishing the open waters of the jetties and beachfront almost impossible. On those days, we fish the protected back lakes for slot reds, speckled trout and flounder. These areas are producing some very nice catches and are always very kid friendly. The next couple of months will see these areas really producing well as these marshes are filled with baitfish.
Freeport Deep Sea Fishing
Our red snapper season was incredible this year. Many, many Giant Red Snapper were caught and our fishery in the Gulf of Mexico is doing great. Along with red snapper we are catching amber jack, king fish, wahoo, grouper, tunas, mangrove snapper, and cobias. We will fish offshore thru August, and then concentrate mostly inshore and flounder gigging.
